The Tucson Mountain district of Saguaro National Park is west of Tucson. The saguaro cactuses, Carnegiea gigantea, grow only in southern Arizona, in California along the Colorado River, and in Sonora, Mexico. The cactuses can live for more than 200 years and grow up to fifty feet in height. The western part of the park also protects Native American petroglyphs.
